Veterans museum welcomes 500,000th visitor

Charlotte Sun - 7/29/2017

On Friday, July 21, the Military Heritage Museum welcomed its 500,000th visitor to the current location in Fishermen’s Village in Punta Gorda. Marissa Morrison of Port Charlotte, who had previously visited just a week ago, arrived with her mother and daughter and they were greeted with balloons, a certificate, and some museum keepsakes from the gift shop.

Since the museum started tracking visitors in October 2007, they have welcomed 500,000 guests who learn about our nation’s history from the Civil War to the present day. The first full year (2008) there were 44,899 visitors and last year (2016) there were 66,975 visitors, which is a 50 percent increase. The highest traffic volume is recorded in February and March, but the museum welcomes visitors year-round from all over the country and from several other countries.

Museum volunteers Jim Miele, Joe Dinish, and Chuck Vullo were on hand to celebrate this landmark occasion with Ms. Morrison, as were Executive Director Lori Howard and Administrative Assistant Kelly Surprise.
