LBCC's 2023 State of the College event set for Monday, March 13

Mar. 5—Long Beach City College officials will share the school's successes from the previous year and plans for the future next week during the annual State of the College event.

The program will begin at 3 p.m. Monday, March 13, at the Bob and Barbara Ellis Auditorium on the Liberal Arts Campus, 4901 E Carson St.

"This is LBCC's opportunity to showcase our students, our innovative partnerships," Superintendent-President of LBCC District Mike Muñoz said in a statement, "provide updates on our bond initiatives and share exciting plans for the future of our institution."

The 2023 State of the College will highlight the new partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach to provide free afterschool programming for children of LBCC students, the new Phoenix Scholars program that focuses on gang-impacted students, and improved transfer rates for Black and Latino students.

Officials will also share how innovative, real-time responses helped LBCC rank in the top 5 out of 116 California community colleges in terms of minimizing losses and maintaining student enrollment during the coronavirus pandemic, according to spokesperson Stacey Toda.

"We encourage everyone to attend," Muñoz said, "and join us in celebrating the successes of Long Beach City College."
