Afternoon tea, lunch for veterans, drive-through dinners planned

Nov. 3—ANDOVER

Andover Congregational Church, 359 Route 6 in Andover, will hold an Autumn Afternoon Tea on Nov. 2 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The tea will include an assortment of teas, a basket raffle and homemade delicacies.

Admission is $10. Reservations are required. Leave a message at the church office, 860-742-7696, to reserve seats.

COVENTRY

A pot roast drive through/take-out dinner will be served at Second Congregational Church of Coventry, 1746 Boston Turnpike.

The menu: pot roast, potatoes, gravy, carrots, bread and dessert.

The cost is $15 adults, $8 children. Place orders at 860-742-1616 or email and indicate pick-up time of 5, 5:30, or 6 p.m. The. correct amount of cash or check required.

Drive down from church parking lot to the Community House across from Highland Park.

HEBRON

St. Peter's Episcopal Church will hold its next monthly community dinner Nov. 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. or until sold-out.

If the food is ready and the parking lots are filling up, serving may start at 3:30 p.m.

The menu will include roast pork tenderloin, pork gravy, applesauce, roasted red potatoes, butternut squash, rolls, and assorted desserts. The cost is $15.

This is a take-out-only dinner with no preorders or reservations — first come, first served. Servers will come to your car, take your order and dessert choice, and return to your car to place them in the back seat or trunk. There is no need for you to get out of your car.

As part of the St. Peter's outreach programs, a portion of each meal sold this month will go to the Colchester Food Bank.

The church is at 30 Church St. (Route 85) in Hebron.

HARTFORD

On Nov. 17 from 6 to 10 p.m., Real Art Ways will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Creative Cocktail Hour, a monthly social gathering held on the third Thursday of every month. People of all ages from different walks of life and from different cultural backgrounds are welcome at Creative Cocktail Hour at Real Art Ways, 56 Arbor St., Hartford.

Creative Cocktail Hour will feature live music, four immersive art exhibitions, food and drinks, and a number of activities:

—Live music by QWANQUA, an Ethiopian group whose repertoire is based on experimentalism and regional beats/moods of traditional Ethiopian music.

—Four art exhibitions, including works from:

Rashmi Talpade: Intricate photographic collages that explore community and consumerism.

Danny Giles: Video work based on surveillance footage.

Howard el-Yasin: An immersive installation that includes a suspended piece comprised of thousands of baked banana peels sourced from the artist's community.

Joe Bun Keo: A new body of work that focuses on sentimental, cultural and utilitarian values made up of poetic assemblages and installations.

—Food truck and art-making activities for both adults and kids.

Tickets for Creative Cocktail Hour are $15 general admission, $10 for Real Art Ways members; free for RAW members who come on a bicycle. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

SOMERS

A curbside pick-up turkey supper will be offered by the Congregational Church of Somersville, 22 Maple St., Somersville, on Nov. 12 with pick up between 4 and 6 p.m.

The menu will include sliced turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, winter squash, cranberry sauce, breads. and pumpkin pie.

The cost is $16 (check or cash)

EAST HARTFORD

Support Our Soldiers-Connecticut and VFW Post 2083 will sponsor a "Thank a Veteran" Thanksgiving dinner Sunday, after they finish packing boxes for troops stationed overseas, at the Hillstown Grange Hall, 617 Hills St.

Dinner will start around 2 p.m. Support Our Soldiers-Connecticut and VFW Post 2083 will provide the main courses and request those who can to bring a salad or dessert to share.

The groups are saluting the 65th Infantry's Puerto Rican "Borinqueneers" of the Korean War. The dinner will feature many Puerto Rican specialties.

The dinner is free and is open to all — veterans, families, and anyone who wants to say "thanks" to the veterans in attendance.

Also, help is needed with set up, serving, and clean-up.

If too many people show up, to-go boxes will be given.

ENFIELD

The United Methodist Church of Enfield, 41 Brainard Road, Enfield, will host a drive-through pie sale Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The fruit pies are made from scratch then frozen, unbaked, for you to bake and enjoy later. Apple pies and other fruit varieties will be available for purchase. A limited number of jars of homemade raspberry jam and local honey will also be available for sale.

Proceeds from the pie sale will benefit the mission and ministries of the United Methodist Church of Enfield.

WILLIMANTIC

Nov. 12 is Tavern Night at the Jillson House Museum, 627 Main St., Willimantic, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Celebrate Gen. and President Ulysses S. Grant, who visited Willimantic in 1880 to view Mill Number 4. Hear of his accomplishments as well as his favorite food and beverage.
